World-class Cachet for Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival

Oranjestad – With names like David Sanborn, Izaline Callister and Anacanoa in its line-up there is no doubt whatsoever that the 2009 edition of the Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival has world-class cachet. In the three short years the Aruba festival has grown to become a top attraction, with performers from all over the world mailing and calling to be included in the two-event, which take place on September 4 and 5 at the Plaza Cas di Cultura. Alto saxophonist Davis Sanborn has a terrific musical reputation with a career to match. A long list of successful albums can attest to that. Sanborn is an all-rounder: he has composed songs, written film scorings like those for the movies Lethal Weapon and scrogged and he has even acted in movies. His musical taste has a wide range as well: he plays everything under the sun, from blues to pop, from jazz to funk. Izaline Callister is a Caribbean star: everyone is looking forward to hearing her new songs from her latest CD “Esperanza”, hope. The Aruban premier of this CD takes place on Friday, September 4. The performer from Curacao is scoring high with the new road she has taken: she has broadened her repertoire as is now including Brazilian rhythms in her traditional music-inspired songs. Expectations are sky high for the last act of the Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival, the all-female, 12 woman band from Cuba called Anacanoa. The typical son music formerly thought to be the prerogative for male musicians is the groups’ specialty. Rousing songs about all aspects of life are what these ladies sing about. Anacanoa is an experience, one – that should not be missed! Besides these three top acts, The Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival features guitarists Will Bernard, the Dutch blues band Cosy Cotton and Grana Louise, Gloria Vega and her husband from Colombia and a good number of superb local bands, lots of surprises and more. Main sponsors are Unoca, Copa Airlines, Romar, Freeway, Polar, AAA, ATA, and AHATA. Prins Bernhardt Cultuurfonds Netherlands Antilles and Aruba has financed free tickets for the Aruba’s youthful music lovers. A wonderful gesture!
