Special Rembrandt Regatta Aruba stamps available now

stamps-01.jpgPost Aruba is always willing to support sport, social, and cultural events on Aruba. After a conversation with Eric Mijts, organizer of the Rembrandt Regatta Aruba, Post Aruba decided to create a set of 6 stamps for this special event. The set of stamps and First Day Cover, designed by Mr. Adolfo Valbuena will be officially issued on August 7, 2012.

Competitors of the Rembrandt Regatta and the general public will have the opportunity to purchase this special stamp issue during the registration for the regatta competition on August 9th. Post Aruba will be present at Café Rembrandt from 4 to 7 PM to give collectors the chance to buy the sets of stamps and the First Day Covers of the Rembrandt Regatta issue. The set of stamps is available for a cost of Awg 10.50 and the special First Day Cover can be purchased for Awg 12.00.

150c - Eva Luna with captain Eric MijtsEva Luna is a one off the two masters of 43 feet that was built in Langerbrugge, Belgium in 1963. The designer is unknown, the original design drawings state that Eva Luna is a 'croisiere a vitesserapide', a fast cruiser. Originally the boat was a masthead sloop, the rigging was redesigned by Alan Buchanan in 1967 which resulted in the current yawl rigging.150c - Sunfish The sunfish is a very popular sailing dinghy that for the first appeared in 1952, designed by Alexander Bryan and CortlandtHeyniger. Over 300.000 boats have been built and all over the world sunfish competitions are held. The boat is popular in Aruba as an on design racing class boat. Regular races and sailing events are organized by the Aruba Sunfish Club.

175c - Ocean 505, with captain Ernest 'Ernie' KervelOcean 505 is a Moore 24, a 24 foot racing boat that was designed by George Olsen and built in the US. It was one of the first ultra light displacement sailboats and approximately 160 have been built. The late Ernie Kervel was the oldest captain in the Aruba Rembrandt Regatta fleet at age of 79.175c – Teishi with captain HenkWeustinkTeishi is a Yankee 38 that was built in 1972 in the USA. The design was made by Sparkman and Stevens. 30 boats were built between 1972 and 1975, after which the molds for the hull were used for the successful Catalina 38.

200c - SunfishThe Sunfish sailboat is a personal size, beach launched sailing dinghy utilizing a pontoon type hull carrying a lateensail mounted to an un-stayedmast.Having a lateen sail with its simple two line rigging makes a Sunfish simple to learn sailing on and to set up. Upgrades can be added to enhance sail control for competitive sailing, making the boat attractive to both novice and experienced sailors alike.

200c – Dash with captain Remco van DortmondtDash is a J/35, a racing cruising yacht designed by Rod Johnstone. 330 boats were built between 1983 and 1992. These boats are successful racing sloops, which is illustrated by the fact that Remco van Dortmondt and his team steered their Dash to overall victory in the first Aruba Rembrandt Regatta.
