Mixed Media Installation Workshop in Aruba by Randy Wallace

The focus of this workshop will be the development of narratives through a variety of visual art forms.

The emphasis will be upon experimentation.

The goal is to consider different ways of telling a story through the use of objects. Students will be encouraged to formulate narratives that are unique to each individual. In the end, selected works will be combined in a collaborative installation. The intent will be to transform the individual objects into a larger communal narrative using installation strategies.

Students will develop their own personal themes through a series of drawings and texts.  Sculptural techniques will be introduced to expand upon these personal themes.

Alternative presentation strategies will be explored in a final installation of the student work.

About the Artist

GetAttachment.aspx.jpgRandy Wallace is a general practitioner of the inferior arts working out the vernacular of sculpture. Wallace’s work exists in the forms of information, matter and energy. His art production includes sculpture, performance, interactives, drawings, texts, narratives, graphics, photos, video, audio and pointing at things.

His current body of work entitled Existence is Fertile is an accumulating narrative in which past and futures collide. The characters that are implied navigate fictional realms like phantoms. Individual works (be it drawing, performance, or sculpture in situ) function as chapters or asides in compounding narratives.

Wallace received his MFA at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He currently is employed by Trinity University as Studio Manager for the department of Art and Art History. In addition to his duties managing the art studios, he also teaches classes in sculpture and design.
