Oranjestad. -- One of town’s most favorite lunch & dinner places is back in business.
La Terraza Restaurant abandoned its old Renaissance Mall location in favor of an indoor/outdoor new environment on Plaza Margarita, at the head of the main street. The tropical, colorful air-conditioned dining room just opened Saturday, while the gazebo on the plaza is scheduled to be built in the near future.
La Terraza established itself in town more than a decade ago, as an all day family-style diner with a great mix of international dishes as well as freshly caught local fish. The service, the atmosphere and the prices, all come together to create a congenial, neighborhood café and a casual heart-of-town eatery.
True to its international spirit the menu boasts favorites from around the globe from Hummus dip to Chicken or Beef Quesadillas, Caribbean Coconut Shrimp, Greek Salad, Chicken Parmesan, Oriental Chicken Salad, Cuban Sandwiches, Panini Parisian, Mexican Feast Burgers and Pizza Fruitti Di Mare.
The kitchen often winks at the island’s Dutch heritage and proudly serves pork and chicken Sate Java, Dutch pea soup and Dutch Uitsmijter – open face ham sandwich topped by two eggs, sunny side up, and home made Dutch apple pie. La Terraza is famous for its hearty pasta dishes including Fettuccini alla pana Alfredo, Seafood Arrabiata, Spaghetti Bolognese, Lasagna and an interesting Cajun Jambalaya Pasta.
Owners, the Schouten family aim to serve good food: appetizers, soups, salads, wraps, pressatos, sandwiches, panninis, pastas, beef, chicken, fish, seafood, burgers, pizza, coffees, desserts and cocktails, to good friends. It’s a simple philosophy and it has been working for La Terraza since 1990. Gourmet Italian Gelato is proudly featured on La Terraza’s dessert list, and the coffee, undisputedly, is the best in town.
