Amongst the already issued commemorative coins, lies this illustration of the next commemorative coins. These coins, representing the money value of 10 florin and 5 florin, will be issued on the occasion of the 25 years Status Aparte Aruba celebration. These commemorative coins will be issued at the end of March 2011. On the coins there is an image of the main Government Office, the "Bestuurskantoor". The coins form part of the exposition '25 aña Banco Central di Aruba y nos Florin', which can be visited on weekdays until April 15, 2011.

Exposition about the Aruban Florin

In the little Old Protestant church at the Wilhelminastraat, Oranjestad, the exposition "25 aña Banco Central di Aruba y nos Florin" was officially opened on the 17th of February 2011. The exposition is organized by the Centrale Bank of Aruba in conjunction with the government's commission 'Celebracion 25 aña Status Aparte' and gives an impression of the history of the Aruban florin. The official opening was performed by the Minister of Finance, Communication, Utilities and Energy, Mr. Mike de Meza, and the President of the Centrale Bank van Aruba, Mrs. Jane Semeleer.

The organization chose the church as the exposition site because of the monumental value of the building. The little Old Protestant church is after Fort Zoutman the oldest building of Aruba. The church was built in 1846 and stands next the big and modern Protestant church that was built in 1950. The church stands in the center of Oranjestad and is also good accessible for tourists.

The Florin was introduced after Aruba received its Status Aparte in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Formerly, the Antillean guilder was the monetary unit of Aruba. Since 1986, the Aruban Florin has been fixed to the United States dollar at US $ 1 to Afl. 1.79. The present banknote has been in circulation since 1990 and foresees of several characteristics of authenticity. The first banknotes that came into circulation can be viewed at the exposition as well as many commemorative coins that have been issued twice a year during the years of existence of the Centrale Bank van Aruba in silver and gold, to commemorate particular events.

Banknote 5 Florin

In addition, the exposition shows a banknote of the 5 Florin that is no longer in circulation. This banknote was taken out of circulation because of the fast wastage of the paper on which is was printed. To replace this banknote, a square 5 Florin coin was issued, but this was replaced in 2005 by the present round 5 Florin coin. Except of coins, the visitors to the exposition can also see many photographs and sketches.

The exposition "25 aña Banco Central di Aruba y nos Florin" will be open until the 15th of April 2011, daily (except of Saturdays and Sundays) from 10.00 a.m. till 5.30 p.m. The entry is free.
