PoortMSKSavaneta_web.jpgOn Tuesday, May 1, the annual Open Day at the Marine Camp in Savaneta takes place again. The event will be held from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on the ground of the barracks.

The Open Day has a dual purpose. First, it is aimed for the Aruban population to get further acquainted with the work of the Royal Navy, the Marine Corps, the Aruban Coast Guard and the Militia. And secondly, this day is meant to raise money for charity. All proceeds from this Open Day will be donated to two charities in Aruba, the Foundation Por Mi and Clown Doctors Aruba.
The foundation Por Mi, founded in 2007, is a young enthusiastic foundation that supports medical, physical, mental, social and physical care, where necessary, to disabled Aruban youngsters up to 21 years. The Clown Doctors Aruba foundation ensures a smile on the faces of young and old who need it. They visit different organizations in Aruba, i.e. the children's ward of the Horacio Oduber Hospital, the elderly and orphanages.

During the Open Day, there will be many spectacular demonstrations, including a great demonstration of the Marine Corps; the Royal Army, Royal Military Police, Coastguard, the Aruba Police Force and Customs. They will give visitors a glimpse into the daily activities of the various government institutions. Besides these activities different sports club will participate in various sports activities to promote their clubs
In addition to these demonstrations, visitors can also actively participate in various exciting activities, such as descending a crane, sail boats, firing guns or the exciting obstacle course test. Of course the marines also thought of the little ones. There will be a kids corner where the children can jump on the trampoline, in the air cushion and get their faces painted.
Like previous years, this year again there will be a free market place giving individuals and businesses the opportunity to offer a variety of articles and goods to the public.

And off course, music.  Like previous years, radio station Cool FM will again ensure a spectacular live broadcast on the parade ground. There will also be many stalls selling snacks and refreshments.
During the Open Day visitors can buy lottery tickets with the chance to win great prizes; the proceeds will benefit Por Mi and Clown Doctors Aruba. Prices are, among others, Ipad 3, round trip flights to Amsterdam, Miami or Curaçao, weekend stays at luxury hotels, dinners for two, outings and much more!

Last year the Open Day was an outstanding success. Nearly 16,000 visitors passed through the Marine Camp’s gates. This year promises to be a nice day again.

“Do you fancy an adventurous and informative day? We welcome you on May 1st, 2012 at the Marine Camp in Savaneta!” a spokesperson said enthusiastically.
