Dr. Horacio Oduber Hospital announces new rules and visiting hours

In view of the worldwide epidemic of swine flu and especially during the rainy season on Aruba, Dr. Horacio Oduber Hospital has decided to take special precautions to protect patients from any possible exposure. “As we all know when someone is sick their immune system is low and therefore they are very susceptible and can easily be infected. The flu especially spreads fast among such individuals and, where it would not cause any harm to someone who is not ill, they might be affected very strongly’ spokesperson Bob Harms explains.

Although on Aruba we do not have great cause for alarm, it is always better to be prepared as prevention is half of the cure. As of today, the hospital has decided to introduce new visiting hours, namely from noon to 1 pm and from 7 pm to 8 pm. Children under 15 years are not allowed to visit the Hospital and only 2 visitors per patient will be permitted during visiting hours. Exceptions will be made however, for patients whose children are interned in the pediatric department and for families of terminally ill patients.

Anyone who is experiencing flu like symptoms such as sore throat, dry cough and fever and who has to make use of any service the hospital offers such as radiology, pap test etc. is requested to phone the hospital and instructions will be given to them when and where to go to receive these services. By taking these rules into account and by especially practicing strict hygiene measures everyone can help avoid spreading of any illness, Mr. Harms admonishes.
