Children of the Wind documentary to premiere at Aruba International Film Festival

children-of-the-wind.jpgA tale of local heroes, the Children of the Wind documentary is a story of triumph of children who, from humble beginnings and with the odds stacked against them, became champions. To quote the filmmaker's storyline, "in 2001, Bonaire sent a group of thirty children to the biggest North American Championship in Florida. They blew everyone away, taking home twenty trophies, an unprecedented achievement for any country much less a tiny Caribbean island. What many didn’t realize, however, were the humble backgrounds from which these children came, particularly brothers Tonky and Taty Frans who never knew their father and left home at ages 6 and 7 with their cousin Kiri to live with their grandparents and learned to sail on old broken equipment."

This very human documentary follows the children in their transition from young hopefuls with limited means to being on the world stage in their sport with its accompanying fame. Don't miss it!
