October 2005 - - Bucuti Beach Resort - - Eagle Beach Aruba - -  As the Bucuti concierge team invited  associates and guests to join last months beach clean up of Eagle Beach, all were reminded that  more than a decade of beach cleaning has taken place.

Bucuti’s owner and manager, Ewald Biemans created Aruba’s Environmental committee within the Hotel Association in the early 1990’s and one of his early projects was “Sponsor-a-Mile” whereby Aruba Hotel Association committed to keeping one mile of beach or roadside clean.  The third Wednesday of the month has been Bucuti’s beach cleaning day and hundreds of Aruba’s visitors have participated along the way.

The project in the early years had 43 organizations cleaning a mile of roadside or beach which, over the years inspired special events including clean ups by local schools and other organizations.  The long term goal has been to heighten awareness of the trash problem in order to reduce it.
