On July 14th, Aruba received the good news that the national champions of Aruba defeated St. Thomas of the U.S. Virgin Islands 10-4 today to win the Latin America regional championship in Costa Rica and qualify for the Junior League Baseball World Series in Taylor Michigan.
Aruba´s pitcher, Gillian Wernet, kept the Virgin islands batters of balance. Wernet gave up four runs on seven hits in pitching six innings. Jeandrick Oduber threw a one-two-three seventh inning to end the game.
It will be the second appearance in four years for a team from Aruba in the World Series for the best teams of 13- and 14-year-olds.
The World Series for the best teams of 13- and 14-year-old baseball players from around the globe will take place August 12-18, 2012. Taylor is the only city ever to host the Junior League World Series, which debuted in 1981.
