Son of Martin Luther King Jr. invited Aruba Prime Minister for the historic act of unveiling a monument in Washington D.C. dedicated to his father. Mike Eman was received with dignity and friendship. The official dedication of the special monument to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. scheduled for August 28th was postponed due to hurricane Irene. However, Martin Luther King III invited Prime Minister Eman to visit with him personally and to accompany him to the impressive monument dedicated to his father.
Despite his numerous commitments and during the very hectic days surrounding the dedication activities, son of MLK Jr. took time to return the special hospitality he was shown when he visited Aruba recently. Mike Eman was particularly impressed with this gesture.
On Saturday before leaving to return to the King Center in Atlanta, son of MLK Jr. who today carries on the legacy of his father took Prime Minister Eman personally to the monument dedicated to his father. Together they stood at the majestic statue of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and together walked through history. The words and expressions of Dr. King are inscribed on the walls for all eternity….the words that moved the world are now a part of the impressive monument.
One day earlier, Martin Luther King III stood at the site together with his sister, Bernice King, Christine King Faris, sister of Dr. King, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton and Andrew Young. These all walked with Dr. King. The following day Martin Luther King III recounted his sentiments and solemn experience with Mike Eman.
On Friday evening Martin Luther King III invited the Aruba delegation to be his guests of honor at a theatrical and musical memorial to his father performed by some renowned American artists. The Prime Minister and his wife were seated next to Martin Luther King III during the special memorial presentation in Constitution Hall in Washington. Minister Eman also conducted a meeting with Martin Luther King III together with the management of the King Center of Atlanta. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the programs for the Aruban community which Aruba will embark upon together with the King Center in Atlanta.
