PALM BEACH - Where are all the Hollywood stars getting their healthy glow? It’s the skin secret behind the perfect bronzed skin of Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Brittany Spears, and countless others. Remember Charleze Theron at the Academy Awards two years ago when she picked up her Best Actress award? Her overnight tan was compliments of airbrush technology.
Once only available to the rich and famous, self-tanning technology through professional airbrush application is now available in most big cities in the U.S. and Europe, and now it has arrived on the island of Aruba.
The newly opened Aruba Tan in Palm Beach has dedicated a portion of the salon for airbrush tanning. "It’s safe for all skin types," says Aruba Tan owner Muna Perret Gentil, "and ensures an all-over even tan."
All airbrush machines are not created equal, as Muna discovered in her international search for the best machine for her salon. "The finer the mist that the airbrush applies, the more natural, and more precise the outcome...no dripping or streaking, as is the case with some of the cheaper, home-version models on the market," she explains.
The technique and experience of the technician applying the airbrush tan is also important. Muna herself works with her clients, and has turned the process into an art form. "I love to work with the airbrush...I find it very rewarding to make people feel more confident about their looks," she says. Muna has even learned how to focus on key parts of the body. "If I shade someone’s abdominals or add a little extra hue between the breasts, it can enhance muscle tone or cleavage."
Many of Aruba’s fashionistas are trying the new technique. Recently, Bon Dia Aruba’s contributing editor on the island’s fashion and social scene, Elizabeth Guanipa, experienced the airbrush technology. "Elizabeth already has an olive skin tone, and many with her same color shy away from getting more color by sun tanning; but the airbrush tan helps even out skin tones...it’s the perfect solution to an instant bronzed look for that revealing strapless dress for a Saturday night party. And because it is ultraviolet ray-free, even those with the fairest skin can get a sun-kissed glow and feel confident in bare-all clothing," Muna concludes.
