Aiff Spotlights Aruban & Caribbean Film Heritage

AIFF 2010AIFF 2010AIFF 2010

The Aruba International Film Festival is planning a very special day of Caribbean films especially for the Aruban community.

The afternoon of Sunday, June 6th, will be dedicated to a series of films of special interest to Arubans.  Entrance to these shows will be free of charge. The movies will run continuously in 4 of the movie theaters at the Paseo Herencia Cinema Complex from noon till 4 p.m.

One of the objectives of the Aruba International Film Festival is to encourage local emerging filmmakers.

Supported by Ministry of Culture, the AIFF, the Department of Culture and the Caribbean Film Foundation have joined forces in dedicating a special SPOTLIGHT series during the International Film Festival to showcase local productions and productions from the Caribbean region.

All of the films that have been chosen for this special viewing are original and have been selected for their creativity, professional quality, historical value, and relevant content to the Aruban community.  Most of the cinematographers whose films are being shown will be present at this occasion to introduce their film to the spectators and/or be available to subsequently answer questions from the audience.

The films featured will be of special interest to Arubans: some are documentaries of historical and cultural significance to the local community; others are in the native language Papiamento; several give an insight to recognizable lifestyles in the Caribbean and thus the island of Aruba, while another includes never before seen footage of an Aruban cultural icon.

There will be four screening rooms offering a continuous cross programming of films featured at the same time.  Therefore the visiting audience can pick & choose their movie of preference. This way the organizers wish to give the visitors an excellent image on the development & the scope of cinematography on Aruba & its neighboring islands, and hope furthermore that the viewers will enjoy a nice cultural day.
