AHATA Environmental Committee announces the 10th Aruba Annual Recycled Art Competition

Annually, the Environmental Committee of the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association, AHATA, inspires students, employees and artists to collect discarded items and convert them into art.

This year they celebrate their tenth year of eco-awareness aside from beautiful works to look upon, they have always encouraged competitors to think of practical and useful items to be made by recycling refuse.

Past participants include group efforts from schools and businesses, as well as individual amateur and professional artists who have displayed enormous ingenuity and creativity. Prizes for best entries are awarded in seven categories: Kindergarten, Elementary School classes 1-3, classes 4-6, Secondary School, Hotel/Business/Group and For individual artists in amateur and professional divisions.

recycle-01.jpgThis year’s organizers, Dennis Aguirre, Vanessa Rasmussen and Michael Paesch announced they are now accepting registration of participation, with a deadline of April 20th. Completed projects must be brought to the exhibit hall of the Cas di Cultura and set up prior to the official opening of the public exposition Tuesday, April 26 no later than 2:00 PM; doors open to the public at 4:00 PM.

Past entries have been constructed of every sort bottle and bottle cap, Foam egg containers, plastic, aluminum cans, woven plastic shopping bags, newspaper and magazines, cardboard and broken glass, which can be additionally enhanced with paint or glue, according to the rules.

Competitors and the public are reminded of the three “R’S” - REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE. AHATA invites all to come and enjoy the remarkable creative efforts and to be inspired the exhibit will close on Friday May 6, when the prizes will be awarded at 3:00 PM.
