AHATA awards the Shoco

Oranjestad. – Awards of excellence were handed out for the first time, during the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association Ruby Jubilee, at the Renaissance Convention Center. Nominees for the recently-created Shoco award were sent in for consideration by a panel of experts supervised by the University of Aruba.

The Shoco, a local indigenous bird, represents creativity, vision and wisdom, says AHATA CEO Jorge Pesquera. The awards will from now on be awarded each year, recognizing contributions of gifted and driven individuals among the association’s allied members and among the hotels.

Julio Payare, the Jolly Pirates, won Employee of the Year in the allied member category. He shared his nomination with Cesar Maduro, De Palm Tours.

Avril Patrician Cully, Phoenix Beach Resort, was voted Employee of the Year among the hotels. She shared the spotlight with Wilfredo Panopio, Paradise Beach Villas, Mary Juvi Hassell, Hyatt Regency, Michael Martilia, Divi Aruba, Ingrid Pieternella, Wyndham Aruba Resort, Denroy George Gregory, Divi Village Golf & Beach Club and Julio Ramirez, Amsterdam Manor.

Wendy Lacle, Divi Phoenix, won Supervisor of the Year, from among the hotels. She shared the nomination with Wladimir Rodriguez, Hyatt Regency, Carmen Hernandez, Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort, Narciso v/d Biezen, Wyndham Aruba Resort, Pearl McFarlane, Divi Aruba, Ana Patricia Jauregui, Amsterdam Manor, and Dorothea Knot, Aruba Marriott Resort.
