Dogme 95 is an avant-garde filmmaking movement started in 1995 by the Danish directors Lars Von Trier, Thomas Vinterberg, Kristian Levring, and Soren Kragh-Jacobsen.
The Goal of the Dogme collective is to purify filmmaking by refusing expensive and spectacular special effects , postproduction modifications and other gimmicks. The emphasis on purity forces the filmmakers to focus on the actual story and on the actors performances.
In contrast to the two previous Dogme Films, Thomas Vinterbergs Festen( The celebration) and lars von Triers The Idiots , which took the Dogme rules as an excuse to approach filmmaking from a new and envigorating angle using improvisation in acting and filming techniques,Soren Kragh- Jacobsens Mifune takes a rather more modest approach , using the Dogme method to strip the storyline down to the basic of a small scale love story
Consequently Mifune looks rather more composed and film-like than most Dogme films, making nice use of natural light in the cornfields of lolland.
Yet,this is still a film that is wholly true to the Dogme principles , its simple love story stripped down to the basic elements with no adornments or artistic flourishes, allowing the story to focus on characters with the minimum of plot and dramatic contrivance.
