Oranjestad. -- General Manager Rob Smith, Wyndham Aruba Beach Resort Spa & Casino, is the recipient of AHATA’s Shoco award, as Hotelier of the Year.
He was cited for his excellent leadership skills, namely his superb ability to bring a diverse group of people to work together, with great enthusiasm and focus.
He was joined on stage at the Renaissance Convention Center by fellow nominees General Manager Astrid Muller, Divi Phoenix, Managing Director Alex Nieuwmeyer, Divi Resorts, and developer Ewald Biemans, Bucuti Beach Resort & Tara Suites.
Awards of excellence were handed out for the first time, during the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association Ruby Jubilee. Nominees for the recently-created Shoco award were sent in for consideration by a panel of experts supervised by the University of Aruba.
The Shoco, a local indigenous bird, represents creativity, vision and wisdom, says AHATA CEO Jorge Pesquera. The awards will from now on be awarded each year, recognizing contributions of gifted and driven individuals among the association’s allied members and among the hotels.
