Indian Chief Unveiled at Divi Resort

Punto Brabo. – Alex Nieuwmeyer, Divi’s chief had the distinct pleasure to unveil the Divi Chief, a galvanized steel sculpture in the lobby of his famous low rise hotel. The sculpture was commission from talented local artist Gilbert Senchi, of the Southend Art Gallery in San Nicolas.

Divi Chief was designed by Senchi and welded at Starcom Aruba by a team of steel specialists. The sculpture pained autocryl, is part of the Aruba Heritage Series and it represents the Spear, red hot from heat and bent by the wind forged strong from battling the elements.

The series was conceived by Senchi and future additional sculptures will be on display in public spaces.
Divi Resorts have been patrons to the arts under Nieuwmeyer’s leadership. The lobby of the Tamaraijn if already filled with original paintings, artistic photographs and sculptures by international and local artists such as Adrian Rekkers, Frenk Graat, Paul van Driel, Anna Maria Nava, Luis A. Castaño Benjumea and Gilbert Senchi.  Of particular note is Gilbert Senchi’s steel masterpiece Victory, which was presented to His Serene Highness Prince Albert of Monaco during the opening of The Links at Divi Aruba, the 9-hole golf course, in late October 2004.
