New India Assurance flaunts new digs

Ivan & JoyDesigned by architect Dan Oduber the blue-grey-pink modular structure, at Aruba’s new Commercial Park across from the Tamarijn beach Resort, looks stylish and functional. The building’s lower tier in blue and the upper tier in grey, slim the concrete mass down, preventing it from looking chunky, besides the three-four tone play gives New India Assurance interesting, different perspectives from each angle. The lower floor is easily accessible. Isn’t this what an insurance company needs? The office opens directly into the parking lot - no stairs, nor walkways, while the upper floor integrates in the view, offering nice panoramic windows, overlooking the gardens of Divi Village and the upcoming golf course. In the Babel of styles which Aruba offers, Dan Oduber created yet another public building which makes logical sense and serves the people who work there, efficiently. Oduber knows it’s not just about style. It’s mostly about function. Friday, the open-house party was a swanky one. Owners Joy & Ivan Ragunath, a sister and brother team, always give good parties. New India Assurance employs 19 people. It is a 40-year old local family business. The five artworks on the office walls are by Dominican-born artist Charito Chavez
