Aruba’s Ladies Volleyball Selection moves on to 2nd round of “FIVB World Championship Qualification Tournament.”
Recently, the Ladies Volleyball selection of Aruba made history after winning their qualification match which took place in Jamaica. Their victory also granted them a bronze medal and a spot in the 2nd round of the “FIVB World Qualification Championships.” Volleyball on Aruba is growing as the men’s selection also qualified for the second round of the World Championships for the first time in Aruba’s volleyball history.
Head coach Igmar Ogenia, assisted by Jonathan Petrona did a great job leading the ladies team to victory. The delegation that headed to Jamaica was led by Rita Vrolijk- Ruiz.
In Jamaica Aruba went up against teams such as Jamaica, Barbados, and Cayman Islands, where the teams finishing in the top 3 spots would continue to the 2nd round, which will be played next year.
Aruba put up a fierce battle against Cayman Islands for third place and in both occasions the Aruban selection led by Captain Jackie Toussaint beat Cayman 3-0. This victory gave Aruba the bronze medal and the passage to the 2nd round.
The selection consisted of: Jackie Toussaint (Captain), Iraida Dorothal, Cherlaine Ras, Juleisy Castillo, Jamila Elaazize, Julianne Dorothal, Aljenshka Howell, Natia Figaroa, Ghislaine van der Linde, Yubily Oduber, Afraina Ammerlaan y Kathlyn Baarh.
Representing Aruba as referee was Leonard Hilman.
Aruba’s Afraina Ammerlaan was named “Best Setter” of the tournament.
