There is a fantastic beach tennis tournament coming up: the Divi Resorts Aruba International Beach Tennis Event, held at Eagle Beach this year from November 15 – 18. The event promises to be even better than last year’s. The $ 15,000 prize money is drawing the world’s top athletes in this relatively new sport, but it is not only the best of the best that are playing in the soft sand: in all categories and levels Aruban players and those from all over the world will be found. The promotion of the Divi Resorts Aruba International Beach Tennis Event has already started: organizer Sjoerd de Vries, alias Emcee Stuwie, was spotted at Cool FM radio station, hyping the event, which is sponsored by the Aruba Tourism Authority, Amstel Bright, Aruba Aloe, Señor Frog’s, VW and Divi Resorts.

“A large group of Brazilian players, the Italian world champions and quite a number of new, unknowns are coming to play,” says Sjoerd de Vries, who has been busy organizing the event for the last six months together with Jochem Ros and Marc Kiezenbrink. “Among them Matteo Marighella (a.k.a. The Matrix), who has won the international Aruba tournament four times already. The winners of the Hermosa Beach (California), a USA G1 tournament will also be playing, as well as Italian number one in the world Alessandro Calbucci. Aruba’s top players will have a hard time beating those guys,” predicts Sjoerd, who is personally putting his money on Marieke (Maria) Buuts, Aruba’s top female player.

After registration on Thursday, November 15, the Nations Cup gets underway on Friday morning; in the afternoon there is a Youth tournament for kids between 6 – 16 years old. On Saturday and Sunday the beach at Eagle Beach will be chock full of courts and players of all ages, nations and levels battling it out.
