On Tuesday, July 3 registration opened for the Annual Aruba HI-Winds competitions and until the 9th colorful sails will be seen over the shore and in the skies, and an international coterie of the finest amateur windsurfers and kitesurfers compete. Hi Winds Committee President Wim Eelens and veteran race announcer and MC Evert Bongers welcomed island media and sponsors to the official announcement at Taste of Belgium Restaurant on Thursday afternoon.
Organizers Ivar van Luyk and Reinier Middel, had this to say about this year’s event: “This year we spent more attention on the event site: there will also be a lounge room where people can relax, which makes it all more pleasant for participants and spectators.”
Along with all the on the surf and in the sky the event will host many of the extracurricular activities that make it so popular with those on the beach: a Fashion Show, a Night Kite Show, and local radio station Cool FM will be back with their “House of Glass” broadcasting all the exciting results and hosting live interviews.
The HI Winds is famous for its daily Happy Hours with bargain prices on Amstel Bright, a stalwart sponsor for years, as well as the great weekend dance parties, this year featuring live music with Sonic Lab, Earplugs, Honeypot, Mystical Connection, Datapanik and Orange Grove.
On Monday, July 9th, there will be the closing ceremony at Paseo Herencia shopping center in Palm Beach, where the winners will be announced and trophies awarded. It is an entertaining event to which all are invited.
