During the popular Carubbian Festival a very special ceremony was held for 7 giants of Aruba’s Carnival who were honored, The honor was bestowed on them because of their significant contribution to our Carnival.

Minister of Tourism, Otmar Oduber, who himself is a diehard carnival enthusiast, presented the well-deserved recognition. The presentation was in the form of the 14th edition of Bacchanal.

As a form of special recognition the seven honorees are featured on the front page of the official magazine of Aruba’s Carnival. The 7 Carnival enthusiasts are: Nico Quant, Mary Simon, Eddy Ras, Martica Arends, Bertha Janga, Sela Goeloe and Tutu Rasmijn.

Interestingly, all 7 of the Carnival giants live in the San Nicolaas surroundings, hence the reason for choosing the Carubbian Festival for the place and occasion for the celebration.

Minister Oduber had words of praise for the 7 Carnival giants. He praised each person for their valuable contributions to Carnival over the years. He remarked that if it wasn’t for these people Aruba’s Carnival would not be what it us today.

Author of the Bacchanal magazine, Chibi van der Hans, made the presentation. The Minister also received recognition for his contribution to our Carnival.

It is expected that these 7 persons will continue their support of Carnival and that many others will follow suit and continue to make Aruba’s Carnival even greater.
