ARUBA IN STYLE offered the opportunity for vacationing fashionistas to not only the savor the island’s beautiful beaches, but to enjoy the glamour of fashion week runways and the opportunity to meet an international coterie of celebrity designers at the various social events.
Saturday’s events truly conveyed the international flavor of the event, opening with the Dutch Designers Marga Weimans, Mattijs van Bergen, Edwin Oudshoorn, Anne Bosman, Linda de Jong and Sanne Schepers. Brazilian designer Marcelo Quadros created a collection especially for the AIS, showcasing soft feminine resort wear and “the colors of the tropics.” This was followed by “A Special Occasion with Kathy Hilton” at sunset in the Fiesta Garden of the Renaissance Convention Center, where the fledgling American designer revealed her cocktail dresses and formal gowns.
The glittering events attracted a great deal of popular media, including Senior Features Editor of inTouch Weekly, Amy Oseikin, who was attending not as media, but simply a guest. “I personally consider this an ideal venue for a fashion week, and it will attract many who would care to go to the New York and other fashion weeks, but can’t, as they are by invitation only,” she commented. “I have been vacationing with my family on Aruba for years, and would normally have come around holiday time, but my family and I were so excited about the fashion week; we figured I couldn’t miss this!”
