Ateliers '89 is partnering with ATV and Cool FM to produce a TV show & Workshop

StarsLogo.jpgAteliers 89 is producing an exciting new TV show titled ‘Stars of Tomorrow’ in conjunction with a screen acting & screen directing workshop. It’s the first workshop of its kind in Aruba that focuses on the subtlety of acting for the camera, and directing actors for television. Another unique aspect is that students are first taught the skills, and then immediately put them into practical experience on-set in a professional environment.

The TV show first follows the behind-the-scenes journey of the workshop students as they learn essential skills needed to make and star in their very own television program, then we will premiere their creation in prime time on ATV! Australian actor/director Ben Steel has returned to Aruba to supervise the production of the TV show, and conduct both workshops.

"The skills required for screen acting and directing are very different than those used on stage in live theater, where the actor has to communicate to the rear seats," commented Ben.

"Film acting is much more subtle, the camera picks up every expression, inflection, and thought; actors need to be much more controlled. Directors need to be able to visualize how the action will be translated by the camera, and develop the essential skill of bringing out a performance in actors for television, and cast the correct actors for every role. Screen acting and directing are arts unto themselves."

The ambitious ‘Stars of Tomorrow’ project follows a very successful “Acting Bootcamp” workshop of last summer also instructed by Ben and held at Ateliers ‘89. Elvis Lopez and Evelino Fingal founded Ateliers ’89 with the intention to provide training, inspiration and opportunities for talented young islanders. Since reopening two years ago, Elvis has regularly hosted free workshops in the visual, literary and performing arts by noted artists and teachers from around the world.

Local TV station 15 ATV and radio station Cool FM 98.9 are committed to the project as offical media partners. ATV will exclusively broadcast behind-the-scenes updates of the workshop & TV production, plus broadcast the final epsiodes of the TV show scheduled for May.

Cool FM will exclusively air updates of the workshop & TV production in interviews and in a regular blog following the students on their website.

Registration for the TV show & workshop is open now! The two-month project commences with the first day of the workshop beginning on March 1. There are a limited number of places, so potential students are advised to act quickly. The acting workshops will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 PM, and directing workshops are the same hours on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays until April 30.
