Aruba's Sara-Quita Offringa is world women's freestyle windsurfing champion twice in a row

Sarah-Quita Offringa has become the world champion in freestyle windsurfing, for the second time. This incredible achievement is made even more mind-boggling considering the level to which she has taken the world by storm since her first appearance last year. This year Offringa nailed a perfect air funnel and a switch spock 540 in her final heat, this on top of her already incredible repertoire.

During the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) World Tour on the Canary Islands this past weekend, Offringa was declared the best freestyler of the world together with Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo. Additionally, she also won the windsurf competition on the island, which is actually not as amazing in comparison of the fact that Offringa hasn’t lost a heat in two years. Aruba presents her a heartfelt congratulation on such an outstanding achievement.

In spite of the light wind, the European super star Steven Van Broeckhoven, Kiri Thode, Yegor Popretinskiy, and Davy Scheffers finally took off. They thrived in making the most of it, which encouraged the other participants to do the same. When a hard breeze came up at almost one hour before lunch, all forty athletes took to the water for training. The spectators enjoyed the gorgeous sight of the world’s best windsurfers at work.

The event came to an untimely end on the last day, as the wind dropped once again. Surrounded by photographers, Gollito and Offringa were made immortal. After the event, windsurfer Nayra Alonso spoke highly of the Aruban athlete’s amazing talents. Offringa was described as an untouchable, and the sort of talent that only comes around in sport on a very few occasions. To add to this already glowing report, she said that Offringa is also a wonderful person, always humble, always full of praise for her opponents, and always incredibly modest.
