Glass; A Unique Material
The secret of glass can be found in its unique form of existence. It is a magical material, dancing gracefully within its states of matter. And with the touch of masters who could unveil its mystery, it becomes a work of art.
Glass is a refined medium for artistic expression. However, utmost dedication, enthusiasm and a certain aesthetic sensibility are essential to gain experience in producing glass artwork.
The Artist:
Marian Abath (1970) discovered her passion for working with glass during an intensive training period at the Glass furnace in Istanbul ,Turkey.
The Glass Furnace is a training institute specialized on glass art in its broad sense: Glass blowing, kiln casting, hot casting, and lamp working for little objects and glass beads are thought at this institute.
Theory , technique, and use of materials are thought by a selection of international renowned glass artists.
Marian followed was trained at this institute in 2006 after years of little experiments on her own with this medium.
Glass is a fascinating material to work with for it offers endless possibilities and combinations of colors when the medium is in its melted form. Gravity and temperature also play an important role.
For this line “Couleur Locale” took inspiration from the color of her surroundings: from corals to old bottles, flowers to hidden earthly treasures such as gold it al becomes visable in her glass art.
The glass that is used is mainly from Italy ( Moreti) and zwitzerland ( Lausha). But found glass from Aruba is also used.

Opening:
The official opening of “Couleur Locale” will be on Wednesday (27 june 2007) night at 8:00pm at Access Art Gallery located in Caya G.F. Betico Croes 16-18 (mainstreet) in Oranjestad and the collection will be on view (and available for purchase) at the gallery from 10:00am to 8:00 pm from Monday to Saturday.
This night will also be a good opportunity to view the fantastic new solo exhibit “In A Different Light” by Joseph Miklocjic as well as other works by local and regional artist exhibited in the gallery.
