Oranjestad -- In keeping with the company’s tradition of offering only the best wines, Aruba Trading Company invited various prominent local food & beverage executives to a special wine dinner.
The exciting event served to introduce a new prestigious brand from Bordeaux, France, named after one of the legendary founders of B&G wines, Thomas Barton, of famed Barton & Guestier, purveyors of Joie De Vivre since 1725.
In collaboration with the team of the recently renovated and revolutionized Matilde, a special menu was created pairing five exceptional wines made by Thomas Barton Reserve with outstanding food prepared by Executive Chef Linda Pool and her kitchen brigade.
Dinner was guided by Audry Clos, from Bordeaux who shared some of her wine knowledge with the guests. Clos, headquartered at Chateau Magnol, has been traveling extensively around the Caribbean and South America to introduce the new opulent product.
Jorge Curiel, Aruba Trading Company Sales & Marketing Manager Wines reports the new brand is designed exclusively for upscale restaurants and will not be available for ordinary retail.
Thomas Barton who came from Ireland to Bordeaux in 1725 became one of the most important wine merchants of his time.
His spirit is perpetuated in the carefully selected appellations which make up the Thomas Barton Reserve collection: Bordeaux, Medoc, Margaux, Saint-Emilion, Graves Blanc and Sauternes.
Faithful to their roots, the Thomas Barton Reserve wines are bottled in heavy 18th century-style Bordeaux bottles and boast elegant, minimal labels.
The rich, fruity and slightly oaked wines were served with each course by Matilde’s sommelier with Thomas Barton Reserve Graves chasing the Tomato Carpaccio with Goat Cheese and Arugula Salad; Thomas Barton Reserve Saint Emilion escorting the Grilled Tuna Loin with Fig Sauce; Thomas Barton Reserve Margaux complementing the combination of Lamb Loin and Marinated Rack of Lamb with Rosemary Sauce; the Thomas Barton Reserve Medoc balancing the lukewarm Epoisse Cheese, Fennel, Walnuts and Red Port Balsamic Reduction and the sweet, irresistible Thomas Barton Reserve Sauternes harmonizing with the Crème Brulee with Orange Marmalade and Tropical Fruit Gelatin.
The evening was entertained by pianist Victor Camacho.
Matilde, says restaurant manager Patrick v/d Berg is already featuring the new wines on its extensive, interesting wine list.
