Tierra del Sol to host World Cup Qualifier Tourney

WESTPUNT - This year, the road to the 2006 World Cup runs through Aruba.

The top-ranked Caribbean course of Tierra del Sol Resort, Spa & Country Club was chosen by the Tour de las Americas (TLA) as the qualifying stop for more than 20 national teams hailing from Latin America, Europe, and other parts of the world.

This four-day event will be conducted by the Tour de las Americas on behalf of the International Federation of PGA Tours. The 2006 World Cup will be played on the island of Barbados at the Sandy Lane Resort, December 6th - 10th.

At least three spots will be granted to the players of the 72-hole qualifier at Tierra del Sol, where the format is
four-ball on the first and third days, and alternate shot on the second and final day of the tournament.

The World Cup forms part of the World Golf Championship Series with a minimum purse of US $ 4,000,000.

Tierra del Sol's PGA championship course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., and is known for its challenging desert links style of play.

The course has made Golf Digests top 100 "Places to Play" in the world.
