At Casa del Mar's members' lounge the annual giveaway of Friends of the Handicapped was a joyous occasion. Friends of the Handicapped are tourists wintering in Aruba at Casa Del Mar & Aruba Beach Club. While on vacation, they dedicate all their time to fund-raising and give many thousands of dollars each year to local charities.

This year, $60.000 were handed over to organizations dedicated to aiding the mentally, emotionally or physically handicapped. The funds were collected during the traditional Superbowl event at Casa del Mar and during the first annual Valentine Day's Sweethearts Ball, at the Hyatt Regency. Among those enjoying the generosity of FOH, a 16- year old Aruba teen who is terminally ill and whose wish it is to visit Disneyland. President Art Stark conducted the ceremony. During his 5th presidency, he said, he was pleased to announce that some new organizations were added to the beneficiary list.

To qualify for next year, organizations will have to report what the money was spent for. Cheques were handed to Casa Cuna, Cas Pa Hubentud, Te Aworo, Fundashon Respetami, Ambiente Feliz, Sister Philote, Women in Difficulty, Imeldahof, Centro Huvenil Bon Tardi, Favi, Funari, Kibrahacha, Fada, Samba, Fundashon Muchanan, Foundation for the Mentally Handicapped,  AVA, Sonrisa, Cas Sjabururi & the Aruba Rainbow Assembly.
