70 years ago, on February 16, 1942 Aruba had the unfortunate record of being one of only a couple of places so close to the American continent that were attacked during World War II. Back then it was a German U-boat targeting the Lago Refinery, at the time the largest in the world and strategically significant to the allies, that attacked and sank several tankers. Yet there is no sign or commemorative plaque on several sites related to this event to explain the significance of these places in Aruba's World War II history. Perhaps its time?
