A little about Roger:
Family
Roger Peterson's grandparents on both sides were from the island of Sint Maarten, his paternal
grandparents moved to Aruba, and the maternal ones to Curacao. In a peculiar way, his father from Aruba fell in love with his mother who's from Curacao, andso they married in Aruba.
Roger was born December 1st 1980, a couple of years after his older brother Ryan.
Music
Roger grew up in the districts of Savaneta and San Nicolaas. When he was about 6 years old he began
singing in a choir, when he was 15 he began playing drums, he played with two different bands, the first one was called MOOSE and had kind of a brit rock style, and the other one was called LEMONBONG, which wasa nu-metal band...he also played at local gigs and parties.
After that Roger began singing again with a friend from MOOSE, and they formed a new band called ALIAS and played in known clubs in Aruba like The Cellar and also at the Black Hog Saloon, which is a Biker/Rock oriented bar.
After becoming good friends with the members of the house band, the guitarrist, Martin Buitenweg asked him to play with him in an acoustic band, where they did covers of well known artists at the Chaos Cafe. They were a big hit, so they decided to record a CD named R&M, which was a huge succes also, 4 of their songs were for a couple of months on the top 40 radio hits in Aruba, and one of them specifically, was #1 for 7 weeks! That year he also won the #2 spot on the local charts for the year end chart.
Career
These events were great, but then after graduating Colegio Arubano, Roger decided to continue studying in Holland, initially he went to study Sociology, but his musical calling made him change his mind, so he decided to do what he loved most: a career in music, Roger auditioned and he was one of the few accepted at the Rock Academie, in Tilburg. There he met some other musicians (from St. Maarten) with whom he began singing in the roots reggae band called ORANGE GROVE, with OG they played in places like the Effenaar in Eindhoven, 013 in Tilburg, Nighttown in Rotterdam, they also went many times to the island of Sint Maarten, once for the annual Regatta and a couple of summers ago, for the promotion of their Heineken/Orange Grove summer tour
Not long ago, Roger was one of the 8,000 contestants on Holland's popular t.v. program 'Idols', he
classified into the last round of 10 contestants, when he refused to sign Idols' contract they pulled him out of the show.
Immediately, he got offers from lots of major and independent record companies to record an album, Roger and his band Intwine decided to sign with Dureco/Strongholt music company, with whom they recorded their CD single 'Happy?' in february 2003. They also shot their music video in Antwerpen, Belgium, which is still being played (among others) on MTV Holland, as well as on other music channels and radio's in Holland, Belgium and also in Aruba. After his big hit 'Happy', Intwine recorded about 4 singles, 2 albums and DVD's all of which were big hits.
Intwine has been chosen by the public to be on PINKPOP along various famous rockers. They won lots of local awards and were even nominated for the Edison Awards (the european Grammy's equivalent). Roger came a couple of times to Aruba with Intwine to give his loved island amazing concerts and they also went to Curacao and St.Maarten. Their song CRUEL MAN, was the main soundtrack for a famous dutch movie called 'DE DOMINEE'. Right now Intwine is on top of the charts in Turkey and Belgium too!
Despite the fame & success Roger is still the same smart, funny, down-to-earth Aruban guy.
Intwine keeps rocking and now they have a new single called 'YOU' , a song he dedicated to his grandfather. You can see this and more of Intwine's on YouTube.com
Below we can see the special video clip that was recorded for their new song "Peace of Mind" which is dedicated to support the efforts of the Red Cross.
